All-on-4 Dental Implants – Lewisville, TX
A Streamlined Path to a New Smile
Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots, but does that mean you need one for each and every missing tooth? No. Many patients qualify for All-on-4 treatment, which can allow you to rebuild an entire arch of lost teeth with as few as four implants. Plus, you can get a beautiful denture on the same day as your implant surgery! Dr. Capehart of our Lewisville dental practice is proud to partner with local specialists so his patients can take advantage of this streamlined path to a new smile. How Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Work?
During All-on-4 surgery, a highly trained dental professional inserts four dental implants at strategic positions in the jawbone. Two go toward the front of the mouth, and two are placed toward the back of the jaw at an angle. This careful placement utilizes areas of the bone that are naturally strong and thick, so most patients do not even need a bone graft in order to qualify for All-on-4 treatment.
Immediately after the implants are in place, a provisional (temporary) denture gets attached to them. Later, after a healing period, a permanent denture is provided.
Am I a Candidate for All-on-4 Dental Implants?
You might be a candidate for All-on-4 treatment if:
- You have lost all or most of your teeth in either your upper or lower dental arch (or both).
- You are free of active gum disease.
- Your jawbone is healthy enough to support dental implants. (Most patients meet this criterion even without a bone graft.)
- You are well enough to undergo minor surgery.
- You have good habits that will support the long-term success of your new teeth.
Even if you do not qualify for All-on-4 right away, you might become a candidate after preliminary treatment, such as gum disease therapy.
Benefits of All-on-4 Dental Implants
Some outstanding benefits of All-on-4 treatment include:
- Improved chewing power. Dental implants can provide a bite force that is almost as strong as that offered by natural teeth. You may be able to eat all of your favorite foods again!
- Natural look and feel. Your All-on-4 denture should feel comfortable in your mouth, and you can expect it to look very natural.
- Jawbone preservation. Dental implants stimulate the jawbone, helping to keep it strong and whole.
- Efficient treatment. All-on-4 treatment allows you to get a strong, reliable smile as soon as possible.
All-on-4 vs. Traditional Dental Implants
Some important differences between All-on-4 and traditional dental implants include:
- Usually, traditional treatment takes longer. All-on-4 allows you to get a denture on the same day as your tooth extractions, but with traditional implants, there may be a waiting period of several months.
- Number of surgeries. Often, All-on-4 requires just one surgery, whereas traditional implants may require two or more.
- Traditional dental implants can replace any number of missing teeth, while All-on-4 is only used for full-arch replacement.
- Strength and stability. In some cases, traditional treatment uses more dental implants and can provide slightly stronger final results than All-on-4.
